Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Transactions on Modeling and Computer Simulation

Dr. Perumalla serves on the Editorial Board of ACM TOMACS as an Associate Editor. He has been serving since 2008 to date, covering various aspects of discrete modeling and simulation, with particular focus on parallel and distributed methods.

The subjects of emphasis of ACM TOMACS are discrete event simulation, combined discrete and continuous simulation, as well as Monte Carlo methods. The use of simulation techniques is pervasive, extending to virtually all the sciences.

TOMACS serves to enhance the understanding, improve the practice, and increase the utilization of computer simulation. Submissions should contribute to the realization of these objectives, and papers treating applications should stress their contributions vis-á-vis these objectives.

      Journal of Simulation

Dr. Perumalla serves on the Editorial Board of JOS as an Associate Editor, primarily handling discrete event modeling, agent-based simulation, and parallel and distributed techniques, applied to all domains.

In JOS, the field of simulation includes the techniques, tools, methods and technologies of the application and the use of discrete-event simulation, agent-based modelling and system dynamics. We are also interested in models that are hybrids of these approaches. JOS encourages theoretical papers that span the breadth of the simulation process, including both modelling and analysis methodologies, as well as practical papers from a wide range of simulation applications in domains including, manufacturing, service, defence, health care and general commerce. JOS will particularly seek topics that are not “mainstream” in nature but interesting and evocative to the simulation community as outlined above.

Particular interest is paid to significant success in the use of simulation. JOS will publish the methodological and technological advances that represent significant progress toward the application of simulation modelling-related theory and/or practice.

Other streams of interest will be practical applications that highlight insights into the contemporary practice of simulation modelling; articles that are tutorial in nature or that largely review existing literature as a contribution to the field, and articles based on empirical research such as questionnaire surveys, controlled experiments or more qualitative case studies.

Shorter technical notes will also be considered.

Authors can choose to publish gold open access in this journal.

SIMULATION: Transactions of The Society for Modeling and Simulation International

Dr. Perumalla serves on the Editorial Board of SIMULATION as an Associate Editor.

An archival journal in both print and electronic form, it consists of distinct sections–one devoted to theory, the other to applications. Published articles must have a clear relevance to general modeling and simulation issues. In addition to its archival mission, the journal aims to help professionals and researchers, particularly those involved in multidisciplinary projects, apply advances in modeling and simulation theory, methodology and technology to their application areas.

Methodology papers should be original articles of lasting value dealing with contributions to the modeling and simulation field that are methodological in nature. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: model execution (e.g., parallel or distributed simulation); simulation interoperability; modeling techniques, languages, and development systems; analysis methodologies and techniques; verification, validation and accreditation; randomness in simulations, e.g., random number generation; techniques for real-time simulation, e.g., human-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, or on-line simulation. Purely mathematical, computational, or empirical results, however valuable, are considered more appropriate to the many journals specializing in these areas. General approaches, formalisms, algorithms, or techniques should preferably be illustrated with significant applications that demonstrate their applicability to real-world problems.

Applications papers are original articles describing mature applied work involving computational accounts of modeling and simulation. As this is a modeling and simulation journal, application papers contain a detailed description of the modeling and simulation methods employed. The work advance the state of the art in modeling and simulation in general, or the use of modeling and simulation in a specific application area. Proposals for new ways of looking at modeling and simulation include demonstrations of effectiveness. The methods and applications of modeling and simulation in both well-established and emerging areas are included. Application areas of interest include, but are not restricted to:

Computer Science: Computer networking and communications, high performance computers, real-time systems, mobile and intelligent agents, simulation software, and language design.

Engineering: System engineering and design, aerospace, air and surface transportation systems, microelectronics, mechatronics, manufacturing systems, chemical engineering, and robotics.

Natural and Life Sciences: Chemistry, physics, biology, ecology, medicine, and biomedicine.

Military: modeling and simulation for training, analysis, acquisition.

Social and Cognitive Sciences: economics, demography, politics, human behavior, and cognition.
